BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee has designated March 20-25, as Arbor Week. Arbor Day began in Nebraska in 1872, with the planting of more than one million trees in that state. It's now observed throughout the nation and the world and has been an annual recognition in Oklahoma since 1982. The Broken Arrow city horticulturist, Chris Ohler, wants people to know the importance of tree planting as the community expands. "As we expanded in our communities, you know, we're talking about more concrete going down, more buildings being built, and obviously, you're going to be removing some trees," said Ohler.
